Renting a Dumpster in Derry, NH

October 17, 2025 · Town guide

Derry has been one of southern NH's busiest residential towns for the last twenty years. A lot of new construction, a lot of older homes turning over, and a growing commercial corridor along Route 28 and Route 102. Here's what to expect if you're renting a dumpster in Derry.

The Pinkerton Academy area

The neighborhoods around Pinkerton Academy are a mix of older single-family homes (some 1940s-1960s) and newer infill construction. The access is generally good, with paved driveways and reasonable overhead. A 15-yard or 20-yard handles most projects in this part of town.

A few things specific to the area:

  • Some streets near campus have parking restrictions during school hours
  • The older homes in this area sometimes have plaster-and-lath walls, which adds weight to reno loads

The Route 28 spine

Route 28 cuts through Derry from the Windham line to the Londonderry line and is the commercial backbone of the town. Strip retail, restaurants, automotive, small businesses.

For any project along Route 28:

  • Access is usually a parking lot or rear loading area
  • Traffic peaks during commute hours and weekend retail rushes
  • Most jobs fit a 20-yard or larger

The older residential sections

Central Derry, around the railroad tracks and the older downtown, has more traditional small-town housing. Smaller lots and narrower streets, sometimes with shared driveways. The sizing patterns shift to smaller containers because the access shrinks:

  • 10-yard tier is common for single-room projects in older central Derry homes
  • 15-yard handles most full-bath or small-kitchen renovations
  • 20-yard fits some driveways, not all

If you're in central Derry and not sure whether your driveway takes a 20, send a photo. We can usually tell from a picture and a rough width measurement.

The newer subdivisions

The subdivisions on Derry's outer edges (toward the Hampstead line, the Chester line, the Sandown line) are easier to work in. Wide driveways, modern construction, good access. Sizing is typical suburban: 20-yard for most full-house projects, 30-yard for tear-offs and full renovations.

Newer subdivisions in Derry sometimes have HOA rules about dumpster duration, signage, or placement. Worth checking your HOA if you're in one. Most don't restrict normal residential renovation work, but some have a written limit on container days.

Sizing for Derry projects

Rough starting points:

  • Single-bath remodel in an older Derry home: 10 or 15-yard
  • Kitchen reno: 15 or 20-yard depending on scope
  • Whole-house cleanout: 20-yard for most homes, sometimes paired with a truckload visit
  • Roof tear-off: 20-yard for single layer, 30-yard for double layer or larger home
  • Deck or above-ground pool demo: 15 or 20-yard

These start the conversation. The phone call refines based on materials and access.
